Just spent 2 Hours looking for a song called "kabhi kaha na kisi sey" written by qamar jalalabadi and sung by Ghulam ali.
And no, not the one on Youtube which is a rendition in rag darbaari. No! Not that one.
Very frustrating. And here i am.
I don't know what has happened to the world. Its not that no one on google claimed to have it. There were thousands of websites. But all of them carrying the same stuff. Right down to the youtube link.
All the big retailers, up to itunes. Millions and billions of infrastructure, just to copy one source over and over again 40,000 times. Right down to the newest retailing kid on the block with downloadable music, is selling "kabhi aah lab par machal gayi", a completely different ghazal, under the name of "kabhi kaha na kisi sey" for 6 rupees.
Its not that i donot have the song. I have the song. but there is a problem. Like all artists, ghulam ali also faced and identity crisis somewhere after jagjit singh or something.
And so some studio asked him to re-record the entire thing with keyboard and an echo, to make it sound more modern!
Can you believe that. And the re-engineered sound is awful.
Its like you are trying to listen to some thing beautiful in your home, and the neighbour is playing loud key board with a church echo, and rather badly at that.
Today i realized that how limited choices are going to be. There will be a huge number of options, but, they are more like roads, all leading to the same rome. You will get the feeling that with this click you are going somewhere else, but no, you will be served the same content under a different wrapper.
I also realized that just like people before me, i will also see all the good things getting lost and buried in my own lifetime.
